The VNTE Team

The VNTE team are all excellent on stage and at functions & events ,each with their own specialist added extras and our administration team is just as excellent in keeping our company running well .

Based either in Pretoria or Johannesburg the Team will  work in venues across South Africa and the World as requested .

Donald Gololo

Our team leader , Donald started his theatre career in 1997. Working for a variety of companies his repertoire includes most of the South African repertoire of ballets and operas , pantomimes and gospel musicals. Added to this he has worked on Cats , Fame, Jersey Boys , Boys in the Photograph, Priscilla Queen of the Desert amongst others. 

Donald is a follow spotter who is constantly busy due to the requests for his services.

Can also work generic lighting and also has a driver's license

Jo Sathegke

One of our seniors , Joe started in theatre in 1992 with PACT Opera . 

His repertoire includes most of the South African productions of ballets and operas. Musicals include Cats , Phantom of the Opera ( local and international tour) Mamma Mia, Chicago , High School Musical, Grease, Jersey Boys , Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Singin'  in the Rain .

Joe is a followspotter who has worked across South Africa and on international tours. Joe can also work generic lighting and has a driver’s license .

Simon Motena

One of our seniors, Simon started at the State Theatre in 1986 . Here he worked in various departments including lighting ,drama, opera and ballet .

Going freelance in 2000, Simon has worked in almost every theatre in the country .

Shows include Phantom of the Opera , Warhorse, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Singin in the Rain and many, many more.  

Amy Harris

Amy has a love for prop making , her skills spanning from stage jewelry, woodworking, carving, painting, foam work, upholstery, welding and anything in between, she is always up for a challenge. Other skills include; but not limited to: Stage Manager, Deputy Stage manager, Assistant Stage Manager and Props Manager. Amy has a B-tech degree in Entertainment technology cum laude .Working on a number of Ballets and touring internationally with Musicals such as Jersey Boys, Singin in the rain, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Chicago to some of the furthest corners of the globe.


Simon King

Growing up in the theatre environment and more than a 25 year career in theatre.

Simon started out as a part time assistant lighting technician at the State Theatre Pretoria before spending 15 months in the army. In 1995 he was promoted to Lighting Technician and in 1998 to Senior. His  first lighting designs commenced in  1992. Lighting technician  in all aspects from an assistant stage lighting rigger, to stage electrics, followspotter, board operator and lighting designer  for drama, dance, ballet , opera, musicals, festivals, rock concerts, gospel productions, television adverts, contemporary music. International productions such as Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Tap Dogs, Fame and  Burn the Floor.

Simon has a driver's license

Mike Mokwena

Mike started his theatre career in 2004. His repertoire includes most of the South African repertoire of ballets and operas,as well as Boys in the Photograph , Winnie the Opera and Mandela Trilogy and Sound of Music .

Mike also mends props, sets functions and has a driver's license. 

Brian Madiba

Brian started at the Market Theatre in 2009 where he worked on many productions by John Kani and James Ngcobo. Broadening his experience at the Soweto Theatre , The Joburg Theatre and The Teatro , Brian has worked on most of the pantomimes , set up most of the big musicals and is show crew on  them . Brian also works a lot for Gauteng Opera and Joburg Ballet .

In his spare time Brian is an athlete, running  the Two Oeans and more - ( so in Brian's lunch break often he will be found training !)

Edwin Hadebe

Edwin joined the Joburg Theatre in 2006 and then added Dance Umbrella in 2007 .

Working an extensive repertoire of pantomimes, festivals, musicals, ballet, functions  and concerts , Edwin is an excellent multi-tasker.

Sandile Mlangeni

Sandile is young , with computer experience as well as a stint in security services. Joining the theatre loading trucks, setting functions and working on the set up of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and West Side Story  as well as several ballets and commercial ventures, Sandile is determined to add to his repertoire.

Moshe Seboko

Moshe is "young' in the theatre. A fast learner, working as crew on “The Illusionists”, “Carmen the Ballet” and “Snow White the Ballet”. Gaining experience with the set up of various shows and laying of ballet mats, Moshe can travel around South Africa and Lesotho.

Marlon (Andrew) Mothwa

Andrew has over 16 years experience gained at the Joburg Theatre , the Market Theatre and the Dance Factory . Working on various pantomimes, ballets and corporate functions, along on  many festivals Marlon's repertoire is extensive.

Quiet but very multi skilled , Marlon ( as he is known with us) can also run props.

Ashleigh Pritchard

altAshleigh has spent most of her years in the theatre and has a Wits University with a BA in Drama and production design.

Between theatre and film/television, Ashleigh is always keen to learn and is aspiring to be a stage manager.

At the moment, she has extensive experience in Being an ASM (theatre), props management, props making/refurbishment, design, sourcing and wardrobe coordination for both theatre and television. Ashleigh has a driver's license

Riaan Dreyer

Riaan holds  a Performing Arts Technology National Diploma and his Baccalaureus Technologiae Performing Arts Technology Degree. Add to this his hairdressing qualifications and business skills , Riaan is an asset on any show.

Riaan has driver's license and excellent organizational skills.

Lawrence Leburu

Lawrence started out in 2015 . Having worked at the Market Theatre , supervised by Carl Johnson , he did shows such as Nothing but the Truth and Ladies in Yellow Dresses.Moving on to set ups at The Teatro and Joburg Theatre he has added  many musicals, ballets and operas  to his credits.w.

Gugu Xabu

Gugu started off at the Joburg Theatre in 2008

Gugu is comfortable working on stage and her best asset is her experience as a followspotter. Gugu has spotted many pantomimes, ballets and concerts.


Caiphus Motena

Caiphus has been with us for 2 years  , while studying  .


Mariska Meyer

Trained in theatre stage management and costume design at Stellenbosch University,studied a year of fashion design at Elizabeth Galloway. Stage Managed for Royal Caribbean cruise lines for 3 years.Upon her return to South Africa, she branched out into broadcasting and corporate events. She tours various national arts festivals, show calls, event and production manages, does costume designing and constructing. Mariska is always up for a challenge and putting her various skills to use to make a show successful and memorable.

Jacob Moreki

Jacob has a fast mind, takes instruction well and  a worthy crew member on several of the big musicals at the Teatro and ballets at the Joburg Theatre.

Joe Junior Sathegke

Junior Jo joined us in 2019, currently on a leave of absence as he cares for his elderly grandmother.


Arno Lourens

Arno has been with us since day one !  Looking after our financials, our human resources, seeing to payrolls and so much more.

A friend disguised as my accountant,  we rely on Arno non-stop. 

Competently working with  Word Processors (MS Word, Open Office), Spreadsheets (MS Excel, Open Office), Accounting and Debtors (Pastel Accounting, ME+, Goodx)  and Payroll (VIP Payroll, Sage Pastel)  Arno keeps us squeaky clean on the financial side.
